Outstanding Success for PHYSEC

The Digital Startup of the Year Award goes to students at the RUB.

They have found a way to increase security in the Internet of Things and were delighted to receive a grant from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. PHYSEC, a RUB spin-off, was awarded first place in the competition “Digital Startup of the Year”. Third place went to another start-up company in Bochum called Rips.

According to Prof. Dr. Andreas Ostendorf, Vice-Rector for Research, Transfer and Young Researchers at the RUB, it is an outstanding success for this new spin-off company in the Cyber security domain. Having two winners from Bochum in this national competition highlights the significance of Bochum as a top location for IT-Security.

Four start-up companies were honoured at the CeBIT fair on 13th June 2018 by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. Prizes worth a total of 100.000 € were awarded - 50.000 € went to the founders of PHYSEC. The prize money will be used to further develop the companies.

Securing the Internet of Things

PHYSEC’s business segment is focused on increased security in the Internet of Things. This spin-off company established at the Chair for Embedded Security at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Ruhr-Universität Bochum, develops and produces safe, inexpensive and user-friendly software and hardware solutions.

The start-up team Christian Zenger and Heiko Koepke have already won several awards for their business idea - including the Bochum competition “Senkrechtstarter 2016” as well as the BMWi “Digital Innovations Start-up Competition 2017.
