08.05.2018

On 3rd May 2018, the joint master degree programme “Accounting and Auditing” offered by the Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) and the University of Münster (WWU) got underway.

26 students were invited to the kick-off event at Schloss Gracht in Erftstadt. Apart from a presentation of the curriculum by the heads of the programme Prof. Dr. Peter Kajüter (WWU) and Prof. Dr. Bernhard Pellens (RUB), the students received the opportunity to get to know each other. The highlight of the kick-off event was the fireside talk which began with a speech made by Prof. Dr. Klaus-Peter Naumann from the Institute of Public Auditors, Düsseldorf on “future challenges to the auditor profession ”. Subsequently, there was a discussion between students, Prof. Naumann, representatives of the so called Big Four audit companies and the programme leaders about current developments in the fields of accounting and auditing.

The advanced master degree programme “Accounting and Auditing” is aimed at Bachelor students who wish to work as auditors. For a period of 3.5 years, the students study between May and October and work in auditing companies between November and April. In this way theory and real-world experience are excellently combined . “The master degree programme “Accounting and Auditing” not only provides a scientific education but also a professional qualification that allows the students to put their know-how into practice while they are still studying”, according to Prof. Dr. Bernhard Pellens. The curriculum ensures that students are prepared comprehensively for future professional examinations. University professors from both universities as well as guest lecturers from auditing companies impart the necessary knowledge to the students in the light of the latest scientific data. The knowledge transfer concentrates on the subjects of applied business administration, business law, tax law, accounting and auditing. As this master degree programme is certified under § 8a WPO, exam achievements obtained during studies can be partly credited for the ensuing accounting examination. This makes it easier for students to successfully complete the professional examination. For more information please visit
