50th service anniversary of Prof. em. Dr. Dieter Bender

On Friday, 7th April 2017 the honorary certificate was handed over by the rector of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Prof. Dr. Axel Schölmerich to Prof. em. Dr. Dieter Bender.

Following studies and graduation in the field of economics, research stays at the University of California and successful habilitation at the Universität Mainz, Dieter Bender was initially professor and chairholder at the Universities of Köln and Essen (1976) until he accepted the call of the Faculty of Management and Economics of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum in 1981 for the chair of international economics which he has held until the retirement in 2008.
Since 1982, Prof. Bender is member of the directorate of the Chair of Development Research and Politics and is even active beyond his retirement in 2008 in the field of research, supervision of doctoral students and science.
Dieter Bender was part of the Federal Government on economic matters between 1995 and 2007. He was one of the applicants of the GRK 136 “System efficiency and system dynamic in developing countries” (1995-2005) and was involved in the cooperation with the economic faculties of Afghanistan (since 2002) and with Universities in sub-Saharan Africa (since 2002).
The research areas of Prof. Bender comprise international trade, growth and development such as growth potential of structural transformation and economic reforms.
