Teaching Summer Term 2020 (last updated: 10.04.2020)

Dear students: We are adapting our teaching modules to the coronavirus situation, and we will try to be as helpful and flexible as possible to help you both with the learning outcome and with the earnings of credits in the summer semester.

You can also check the RUB's general coronavirus website (in German) and on our faculty's coronavirus website in German or English.

To see the modules we offer, please scroll down towards the end of the page below the instructions!

Summary of main points

  • We will teach all modules originally planned for the summer semester 2020.

  • Since we have always offered a lot of online material, we are well placed for an online learning semester. As usual, we will offer you lecture slides (which are very text heavy and are almost a script), our tutorials exercise sheets including detailed sample solutions of all tutorial exercises.

  • In addition, we will offer online support hours that will take place during the planned slots of the modules (you find the originally planned contact hours below).

  • Possibly, we may offer some audio comments to the slides.

  • Unfortunately, given the topics and the content of our module, we see no other sensible evaluation method than a traditional exam. We will try to have the exam in the regular exam period in July/August 2020 or as early as possible after that. However, this depends on how the coronavirus situation evolves, and now in April 2020, we cannot make any fixed commitment about the date of the exam, because this does not depend on us.

  • Warning about a worst case outcome regarding the exam date: If the coronavirus restrictions are not lifted in time, there is a possibility that the exams corresponding to the summer semester 2020 will have to take place in October/November 2020, i.e. already in the winter semester 2020/21. If you need the credits to finish your degree, please take this into account.

Instructions to join our online modules

  • The semester will start on Monday, 20 April 2020.

  • Please join the modules using the password delivered by the FSI password distributor. The password will be available soon, but the Moodle courses will be available to join on Saturday, 18 April 2020.

  • You will find detailed instructions in the corresponding Moodle course. We will use the online conference software Zoom. The RUB is probably going to buy a campus license for Zoom. In the meantime, you may register for free as a Zoom user. Please use your real name when registering with Zoom.

  • The first online teaching slots will take place on Monday, 20 April 2020, at the planned slots, i.e. at 10:15h, 12:15h and 16:15h.

  • Until Monday, 20 April 2020, please be patient. Unless you have an urgent personal matter, there is no need to contact us. We will upload all new information to our website as soon as it is available.

  • Stay safe and stay healthy. See you soon online!
